Wao pēpi

Our Wao Pēpi frame is inspired by the idea of the forest canopy (puhikaioreore).

We thought about our babies lying on their backs looking up at the a-frame baby gyms available and saw something missing.

What if the pieces that hung from the frame weren’t just random , but were intentionally chosen to help communicate the messages we as whānau want our pēpi to soak in.

This first set is four pieces that represent our pepeha.

Ko te Maunga,

Ko te wai/awa/moana/roto/,

Ko te waka, rātou

ko te Whare Tupuna.

The idea of those taonga (treasures), those hononga (connections) being suspended above our pēpi, the canopy of their world, excited us so much!

Like the ngāhere (forest) has cared for us and sheltered us, our pēpi are sheltered by their whakapapa, cared for by their tupuna, and inspired by their taiao.
